John Hutchison
Chief Instructor
Tactical Defense Training™
John Hutchison began his martial arts career in
1971 while in the United States Navy with the study of Japanese Jiu

This started a decade long quest for knowledge and skill in traditional
fighting arts that led him to study Kenpo, Wado Ryu, Shorin Ryu and
earned him a Black Belt in Shotokan Karate.
Hutchison became a Police Officer in 1985 where
his martial arts skills were put into practice as a Defensive Tactics
Instructor.
In the years that followed Hutchison became an Arizona POST certified
DTI, Impact Weapons, and POST NRA certified Firearms Instructor.
Always searching for new and better methods, Hutchison
met Richard Ryan in 1990 and began the study of Dynamic Combat™. Four years
later he earned his Instructorship and currently holds the rank of
Combat Expert Level IV (4th Degree Black Belt) in the art, where
he has earned the reputation of being one of the arts most proficient
and knowledgeable instructors. Hutchison is also extensively trained
in Ryan's Tactical Edged Weapons™ and Tactical Defense Training™ system
where he holds Advanced Instructor Certificates. As a police officer
Hutchison is an experienced Yavapai County SWAT team leader and
