Real world, reaction-based defensive tactics

Can you stop an onslaught of explosive punches to your head without
warning and from only a few feet away? Can you stop a grappler
in his tracks as he tries to take you down or take your weapon
from you? Can you stop an attack by someone wielding an edged or
impact weapon?
One Concept, Numerous Applications
What if you could learn a single, simple
system that can stop a sucker punch, a tackle, a leg dive, or
a grab for your firearm
and much more? Now you can. The Shield Defense System™ developed
by Richard Ryan is based on more than two decades of his pioneering
research into the realities of interpersonal combat.
Designed as a reactive, reflex-oriented
response system, the techniques and tactics of the Shield Defense
System™ are
rooted in the correct application of physics and body mechanics
and are based
on natural response patterns we all possess prior to training,
making it one of the most practical and effective defensive tactics
systems you can learn.
Using common reaction patterns as a template effectively reduces
muscle-memory training to a fraction of the time, allowing students
to assimilate and retain real skill with minimal effort. More
importantly, reflex-based techniques designed with gross-motor
movements are
fundamentally non-perishable skills, allowing the students to
retain their basic abilities with little to no practice.
Real-world Applications
In the street, the most dangerous fights happen suddenly, at
very close range and with incredible speed. This presents a
real problem
for traditionally trained law enforcement officers because
they often learn techniques and tactics that are primarily best-case
scenario oriented. That is, they work well when a suspect is
compliant or passively resistant with little or no fighting
skill
or experience.
Unfortunately, more often than not, these techniques fail when
confronted with a worst-case scenario, a suspect ready, willing
and able to fight.
In the street, a worst-case scenario is defined as a sudden,
extremely violent attack at close range with little or no warning.
In these
situations, conventional defensive tactics do not apply and often
fail to work against streetwise people who survive by overwhelming
their victims with speed, deception and fury.
