Open Seminars
Open seminars are widely publicized and open to anyone who wants to attend. Closed Seminars
Closed seminars are open to individuals that are within a specific group or invited to attend. These seminars are not advertised to anyone outside of this specific group.

Specific Types of Seminars Available
There are many existing seminar programs available to the general public, organizations, corporations, law enforcement and the military. Information on these programs can be obtained on our Web site or by calling our corporate office in Phoenix Arizona at 602-482-7252. Initial inquiries can also be made by email at DynamicCombat@cox.net.

In addition to existing programs, RDS seminars can be custom designed to fit your needs or the needs of your organization. If the existing list of programs does not fit your specific needs ask about our customized training programs.

Seminar Fees and Expenses

Seminar Fee (North America)
Standard fee for seminars in the United States and Canada is US$100.00 per hour for teaching time, with a minimum of eight hours to be divided into two days, plus all expenses. The seminar fee is to be paid by the sponsor/promoter in cash, money order, cashiers check as soon after arrival as possible. No personal or corporate checks unless prior arrangements have been made.

Seminar Fee (Foreign Countries)
A minimum overall fee of US$2,000.00 dollars must be guaranteed for any time spent teaching in a foreign country, plus all expenses. The fee is to be paid in U.S. dollars as soon after arrival as possible. Half of the fee pre-paid is preferred.

Expenses (To Be Paid By Seminar Promoter Or Sponsor)

  1. Travel (Airfare Round Trip) No specific airline is required, as long as it is reputable.
  2. Lodging (Each Night Of Trip) A clean, non-smoking room with a king size bed is preferred.
  3. All Meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) Healthy meals are preferred. No junk food.

Special Arrangements
(Please Read Carefully)
Occasionally, certain seminars will require the assistance of a Co-Instructor or Assistant Instructor. Most of the time this isn't necessary, but sometimes things run smoother and the students learn more with a second Instructor or an experienced assistant. If it should be necessary additional Co-Instructors will be paid $250.00 for each seminar day plus expenses (airfare, meals and lodging). Assistants will be paid $150.00 for each seminar day plus all expenses (airfare, meals and lodging).

Specific Seminar Guidelines

  1. Open seminars should be scheduled at least four months in advance to allow for maximum advertisement.
  2. Closed seminars can be scheduled with as little as one month's notice depending on location, instructor availability and times.
  3. All seminars are to be two days minimum, preferably Saturday and Sunday unless otherwise specified. The minimum time requirement is eight hours. The maximum time for two days is twelve hours. Experience has shown that (8) eight hours is good, (10) ten hours is excellent and (12) twelve hours is staring to push it just a little bit. About six hours per day is all that most students can handle and still get their monies worth.
  4. Seminar fee is to be paid in cash, cashiers check or money order on the date of the seminar, if not before. No personal or corporate checks unless prior arrangements have been made. Half of the fee pre-paid is preferred for foreign seminars.
  5. Cameras and video equipment will be allowed, with the following agreement:
Following the development of the photos, a set will be sent immediately to Ryan Defense Systems, Inc. No photos of Richard Ryan or his representatives and Instructors may be used for any purpose without his written consent. Immediately after taping, the video camera owner will give the original tape to Richard Ryan or the RDS Instructor in a self-addressed, padded envelope. A copy will be made and sent to the camera owner, with the agreement that he/she will not sell or distribute this video footage to anyone. If they cannot agree to all of these terms ahead of time, they will not be allowed to tape the event. It's just that simple.
  6. Everyone attending the seminar must pay in full at the door or in advance. No instruction is rendered without payment. Participants not intending to train must pay a one-half price spectator fee. A certain amount can be learned just by watching, so it is not fair for anyone to attend for free.
  7. Seminar t-shirts can be available if they are pre-ordered by the sponsor. They sell for US$15.00 each, or three for US$40.00. Instructional videos are brought by request only and they sell at seminars for US$30.00 each, or four for US$100.00. 8 x 10 autographed color photos of Richard Ryan can be purchased for $5.00 each. Dynamic Combat / TDT / TWT Instructor/Instructor Trainee Manuals can be purchased by members only for $50.00. Membership application forms and merchandise order forms will also be available for those who wish to join at the seminar or pay in advance for merchandise to be sent to them by mail. Anything else that is to be sold at the seminar must be pre-approved by Richard Ryan or Scott Shephard.
  8. For some seminars RDS will provide some or all of the necessary equipment. For others types of seminars equipment (if needed) must be provided by the sponsor/promoter of the seminar. Please inquire about this at the time of scheduling.

How to Schedule a Seminar

  • Contact:
    Richard Ryan
    RDS Seminars Inc.
    PO Box 31637
    Phoenix, Arizona 85032
    Phone: (602) 482-7252
    Email: DynamicCombat@cox.net
  • Schedule the Seminar
Make request for the desired seminar date by writing, calling or e-mailing. Have an alternate date planned in case your first choice is taken. If you are booking an open seminar remember to set the seminar up at least four months in advance. Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu Magazine require at least three months advance notice in order to have a seminar listed. RCO magazine usually only needs two weeks notice. Closed seminars may be scheduled as short as one month prior to the chosen date depending on availability.
  • Provide Airline Tickets
Confirm all arrangements and send the plane tickets well in advance (at least two weeks before seminar date) or purchase e-tickets and send all information upon purchase. Be sure to check with us on all names and spelling of all e-tickets to avoid airline security problems. There is no specific airline preference.
Note of Preference: For a weekend seminar (Saturday & Sunday), Mr. Ryan prefers to depart from Phoenix International Airport on a flight that leaves between 10 A.M. and 2 P.M. on Friday and arrives that evening. For the return flight, Mr. Ryan prefers to leave on Monday sometime after 12 noon. For any variance of this schedule, arrangements must be made well in advance.
  • Cover Your Expenses
Make sure that participants are charged enough to adequately cover all your expenses. The average seminar fee per participant is usually $50 – to $100 per day, with discounts given to those who pay in advance for both days. Some seminar sponsors like to set it up where participants have to pay more if they pay at the door or after a specified early payment due date. This encourages advanced payment, which is extremely helpful to the sponsor/promoter. It is advised that participants are required to pay in cash. This helps in avoiding any unanticipated banking problems.
  • Advertise
Advertise the seminar as needed. For a fee of $25.00, RDS Staff will design an appropriate advertisement brochure if you furnish all of the details such as dates, times, fee for attendance, preferred payment method and exact location of the seminar. If you design your own brochure, it must be approved by Richard Ryan or Scott Shephard before using.
  • Certificates
Certificates of attendance will be awarded to all participants. If your putting on a closed seminar and you know the exact number and names of the individuals who will be attending you may forward those names one month in advance. This allows for RDS to bring the participation certificates at the time of the seminar and pass them out upon successful conclusion. Be sure to check for spelling of all names. For open seminars certificates will be mailed within one month of completion.
  • Tee Shirts and Gear
Seminar t-shirts can be made available for $15.00 each, and must be ordered in advance from the above address. There are several different seminar designs available, so be sure and discuss with Mr. Ryan or RDS Staff which shirt you want him to bring and what color. Occasionally, sweat pants and other attire can be purchased also. Instructional videotapes must be requested in advance and they sell at seminars for the discounted rate of US$30.00 each or four for US$100.00. If appropriate, Instructor/Instructor Trainee Manuals can be made available to members for $50.00. Please see to it that this information is available to all seminar participants well in advance of the seminar. All purchases during the seminar are to be made IN CASH. No other method of payment will be accepted. If anyone has a specific need or demand for certain items, they should request the items in advance. Advanced payment can be sent to the above address in the form of a check, money order, preferably U.S. Postal, made payable only to RDS Inc.
  • Profit Sharing
Richard Ryan and RDS, Inc. have no objection to a sponsor/promoter making a profit off the seminar. However, after payment of all expenses and fee, there is to be a 50%-50% split of all profit over US$300.00. The fee and expenses are to be paid NO MATTER WHAT. Your honesty is expected and appreciated.
NOTICE: These terms have been set up in a simple, easy to follow format. If you follow all instructions carefully you should have a very successful event. If you should run into any problems, notify Richard Ryan or Scott Shephard as soon as possible. To avoid problems, please follow all outlined procedures exactly as they have proven to work very successfully when followed correctly. We thank you for your co-operation.

How to Cancel a Seminar
(Please read carefully)

  1. Time Frame: Once a seminar has been scheduled, at least one month's notice is required to cancel it.
  2. If you cancel a seminar, there is a 50% cancellation fee (50% of the seminar fee) which is to be paid in full immediately upon cancellation. What you have to consider is that by taking up that date on the calendar, you have eliminated a weekend that Richard Ryan or his staff could have done a successful seminar somewhere else. Richard Ryan and RDS Inc. should be compensated in some way for that loss. In addition, is also extremely embarrassing to have a seminar listed in RCO Magazine, Black Belt magazine, Inside Kung Fu magazine, the Century Martial Arts Update, and all Web sites and forums, and then to have the seminar cancelled.
  3. If you cancel a seminar and do not follow these procedures, you will be banned from attendance or participation in all future RDS and RCO Magazine sponsored activities so your complete cooperation is appreciated.
